This vacation ‘haven’, surrounded by pine trees in Tonden, the Netherlands, stretches out over 150 sq. m. Named after its location and surrounded by the green woods, Villa Tonden offers a retreat from life in the city. It is built up of three volumes in the form of small interconnected houses. Each of them has a light area, including a living room, kitchen and dining room, there are also two bedrooms – a master bedroom and one for the children.

All façades are open, leading to the external environment thanks to the sliding glass doors which literally remove the boundary between the interior and exterior. The building with the living room has windows on three of the walls, thus letting in the sunlight throughout the whole day. The roofs and the façades are covered with wooden lamellas which unify the construction incorporated in the natural environment. The furniture in the houses is minimalist. Only the most needed pieces of furniture were selected and the colours are in tune with the surrounding landscape. The lack of focal points is intentional because the entire focus is on the surrounding environment. The materials used, wood being predominant, create peaceful, relaxing atmosphere.
